Watch Alaska State Troopers

Alaska State Troopers is a documentary series that airs on the National Geographic Channel. It follows troopers in the Alaska State Troopers force as they go about their jobs in Alaska. Because of the setting, the show involves not only domestic and business-related crimes, but it also deals with the challenges of the Alaskan wilderness -- bitter cold, deep snow, dangerous animals and vast stretches of uninhabited land.

One aspect of the show that highlights the challenges of being an Alaska State Trooper is their modes of transportation. Unlike most law enforcement agencies in the rest of the country, Alaska State Troopers have to rely on more than just cars, trucks and motorcycles. They need helicopters, snowmobiles, boats, cars, trucks and more. Every time they need a special transport, whether the weather and terrain will allow it is an important question.

Alaska State Trooper shows that even in the wild environment in which Alaskans live, there are problems that one would recognize from any town in more forgiving climates. There are drugs, weapons, assaults and more. One major problem is truancy. Weather and work often keep Alaskan kids from school. Sometimes, the troopers will become involved.

On top of protecting the people of Alaska, including victims of crime and victims of the wilderness, Alaska's State Troopers have to protect the wildlife of Alaska. There are strict regulations regarding fishing and hunting meant to keep the populations of these creatures at a safe level. Alaska State Troopers deal with any violations of these laws and strictly enforce them. Therefore, the show nearly always has at least one dispute near a town and at least one out in the impressive outdoors of Alaska.
